Listening to our Sovereign God

S (Scripture):
Psalm 46:
10 He says, “Stop your striving and recognize that I am God! I will be exalted over the nations! I will be exalted over the earth!”

11 The Lord who commands armies is on our side! The God of Jacob is our protector! (Selah)

Mark 1:35 Then Jesus got up early in the morning when it was still very dark, departed, and went out to a deserted place, and there he spent time in prayer. 36 Simon and his companions searched for him. 37 When they found him, they said, “Everyone is looking for you.” 38 He replied, “Let us go elsewhere, into the surrounding villages, so that I can preach there too. For that is what I came out here to do.” 39 So he went into all of Galilee preaching in their synagogues and casting out demons.

O (Observation): The psalmist recognizes God’s sovereignty of all the earthly powers.  And as Jesus goes off to the quiet to pray, he recognizes God’s will for him to keep moving and to keep sharing the Good News of God.

A (Application): How do we listen to God’s voice?   How can we recognize God’s sovereignty?

For me, the best way to discern God’s power is through spending some quiet time with God.  Jesus went off early in the morning to pray.  He comes back with a new plan.   God says it’s time to move on.

As I wake up, I spend some time in prayer and in God’s Word.  Then I write.  This blog : )

These are my ramblings of what God is up to…who I am…what God wants for me…and ultimately, how God speaks to me through the scriptures.

How is your time with God?  Are you able to spend time in God’s Word?   Is this blog a simple enough format to help you write your own devotions?  You can keep them private or share them with the whole world!  The point is that you continue to practice digging daily into God’s Word and apply the Word to your life.

Blessings to you!

P (Prayer):  Lord, we are blessed to have you as our Sovereign, merciful and slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love.  Guide our quiet time with you.  Amen.
