Open My Eyes, Lord

S (Scripture): Matthew 11:12 From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven is violently attacked as violent people seize it.13 All the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John came. 14 If you are willing to accept it, he is Elijah who is to come. 15 Let the person who has ears, hear.

O (Observation): Jesus calls all to listen closely and to observe what God is up to. John came preaching that God was coming in the person of Jesus. Some believed. Some needed proof. Some doubted.

The call is to listen and observe.

A (Application): When we ignore the call to listen and observe God’s presence, and thus, choose not to deepen our faith, we miss the point of God coming to us.

The Good News is that God does come to us. We manufacture our own demise when we ignore and purposefully choose not to listen and observe God’s mighty presence in Jesus through the Holy Spirit.

How might we listen more closely? How might we clear off our holy spectacles to see God more clearly?

For God is present, whether we realize it or not.

P (Prayer): Gracious God, open our eyes, hearts, and minds to your presence. Amen.
