Division

S (Scripture): Luke 12:51  Jesus continues…Do you think that I have come to bring peace to the earth? No, I tell you, I have come instead to bring division. 52  From now on, a household of five will be divided—three against two and two against three. 53  Father will square off against son and son against father; mother against daughter and daughter against mother; and mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.

O (Observation): Yikes! What ever became of the peaceful, “Kum by ya” Jesus? You’re the Son of God! You’re supposed to bring peace! What’s this talk of division?

A (Application): Oh! So we’re supposed to decide who is most important…you, Jesus, or ANYONE ELSE! Yeah, I can see how that can cause division. My whole life, I’ve known my friends and family, but division still may come because you call us to peace and justice on this earth.

When a friend or relative spouts off something racist…I should probably say something. When an injustice of any kind is noticed, I should say something. Yeah, that might cause my friends or family to be upset with me. I get it. Sometimes, though – if I’m honest – I just don’t “like” it.

P (Prayer): Lord, give me the intestinal fortitude to say what I need to say and to do what I need to do. Amen.
