S (Scripture): Psalm 145
3 The Lord is great and certainly worthy of praise! No one can fathom his greatness!
4 One generation will praise your deeds to another, and tell about your mighty acts!
O (Observation): The mainstay of passing on the faith in the times during which these psalms were written was by sharing faith stories from generation to generation: How God created, how God redeems, how God corrects God’s people and leads them to ways of righteousness.
A (Application): These faith stories allow each generation to enter into God’s story. We are all invited to wonder how God, who we are reminded came to us as Jesus, Immanuel – God with us – enters the world and transforms all of creation. This transformation allows us to take on God’s goodness as God takes on our brokenness. This divine exchange is part of the ongoing nature of God’s story. God is certainly worthy of praise.
I hope this week leading up to Christmas gives you pause to consider how you have entered God’s story, or perhaps, how God has dragged you – kicking and screaming – into God’s story. : )
Happy (last week of) Advent!
P (Prayer): Lord, be with us this day as we contemplate the ways in which you call us to enter your story. Amen.
