S (Scripture): John 7:16 So Jesus replied, “My teaching is not from me, but from the one who sent me. 17 If anyone wants to do God’s will, he will know about my teaching, whether it is from God or whether I speak from my own authority. 18 The person who speaks on his own authority desires to receive honor for himself; the one who desires the honor of the one who sent him is a man of integrity, and there is no unrighteousness in him.
O (Observation): Jesus makes clear to the Jewish leaders that his authority is from God. He recalls Moses’ way. Moses did not call attention to himself for his own name’s sake.
The one who points to God is the one with integrity.
A (Application): Are we always with integrity? No! But then, we’re not Jesus! However, that doesn’t give us the excuse to live without honor.
One of the outcomes of the Gospel transformation is that we would be a humble people, pointing to God, rather than ourselves.
P (Prayer): Lord, make us acknowledge you as Lord and help us to point to you, so that others may see us doing such. Amen.
